IBM WebSphere Message Broker Version 6.1 reached its End of Support just
over three years ago, on September 30, 2013. The successor (and current
release as I write this) to/of Message Broker is IBM Integration Bus
Version 10, Generally Available starting on April 3, 2015.

IBM supported Message Broker Version 6.1.0.12 -- at least that point
release -- on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 11 on z. That release of
Message Broker is a 31-bit product, but it was supported on 64-bit SLES 11
(so-called "toleration"). That release of Message Broker was also supported
on 31-bit SLES 10.

Novell reports that SLES 10 reached the end of its Long Term Support
Services on July 31, 2016 (with SP4, its last service pack release). SLES
11 is supported until March 31, 2022, and its current service pack is SP4.
SLES 12 SP1 is the latest release of SLES as I write this.

z/VM 5.4 is still supported and will reach its End of Support date on
December 31, 2017. z/VM 6.3 is the current release.

According to Novell's documentation, Novell currently supports SLES 12 and
SLES 11 on z/VM 5.4, 6.2, and 6.3. Performance and function are better on
the latest releases, of course. It appears that Novell supported SLES 10 on
all those z/VM releases, plus a couple older ones, but I haven't found a
clear statement to that effect.

There are potential machine model considerations that you should review.
(The IBM redbook associated with your machine model is often helpful in
this respect, although Novell is the authority for SLES.) I also recommend
reviewing DB2 Connect requirements for your particular release levels.
Please note that adequate DB2 Connect licensing is typically required when
connecting to DB2 for z/OS, but it's much less common that you need to
install and run DB2 Connect the software product. Take a fresh look at
whether you can simplify your DB2 for z/OS access by omitting DB2 Connect
(the software product).

Hope that helps.
