This is WAD AFAIK, but could you try out DOSBox and see what is your programs 
performance there?

I can run all my ancient games (pre windoze) under that DOSBox including 
Ancient Art of War, Mean Streets, The Lost Vikings, etc. in my Windows 7 64 bit.
