SPAC was Security Pacific Automation Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of the parent corporation. When U.S. banking was (partially) deregulated in the 80s, SPAC was set up to contain all of IT, including people, hardware, and software. SPAC was then allowed to compete for outside business along the lines of a service bureau. In a similar vein, banking business units were allowed to look outside for service if they weren't happy with SPAC offerings.
I don't remember 'SPIZ', but it's plausible that such a unit existed. . .
