Brian,

Parwez provided a good list of the drives that have been formally tested and
therefore are supported. As stated, a drive up to 32 GB is supported. Other
drives may or may not work. In my personal experience I have seen most other
drives work properly, but I have encountered some brands/types that failed to
properly mount or otherwise work. The issues I've seen were not related to the
size, but instead it was specific to the brand/type. So, to directly answer
your question, I do not know of any explicit code to limit the size of the USB
(although the underlying OS might), but it has to work with the underlying
Operating System.

Regardless of the type of USB you use (one on the list or a different one), it
is important that you follow good backup procedures, such as performing regular
backups, using more than one device, and making sure they are kept in a safe,
secure location. Sadly there have been cases where only one backup was made
and the device was either lost or turned out to be bad when it was really
needed. And there were other cases where regular backups were scheduled, but
unfortunately the device was removed at some point and messages about backup
failures were ignored and...I think you get the point.

Tom
