If the master catalog is tied to the IPL volume, you can name the master
catalog volume in a way that can be derived from the IPL volume serial,
and then set it from the value of the system-defined symbol, &SYSR1.
(If it's not, I don't know an automatic way to get what you want.)

Yes - we switch between LOADA1 (cycle A site1) which uses mastercat A & LOADB1

I realise that I can define a symbol in IEASYMxx but this is error-prone across
90+ z/OS systems in 8 sysplexes.
I'll probably invoke something out of IEFSSNxx which gets the mastercat name
from the IPA and set the symbol. It needs to be defined early as HZSPROC starts
as a system a/s as of z/OS version 2.
