I understand, my example; somewhat old, had defined a dynamic data area, but the expected results / messages were of a know fixed size, we were allowing users to change their RACF password from a CATIA workstation. also, not a good example sorry because I was only checking for return codes, and sending my own message to the user, somewhat like what you are doing currently. I thought of that, but then why am I telling it what key to use for the buffer? It's already there! And how do I know how long the messages are, etc.? Does it fill the buffer with nulls? Blanks? Not saying this can't be the answer, but as you can see, if it is, it raises more questions...!
