RMF III is a separate part of IBM's RMF, writing to its own VSAM files; it does not write SMF records by itself. Especially exploiting the 1 minute interval, it is a powerful tactical tool to find out what happened, while RMF I (SMF 70-79) data is more strategic in nature.
