If the programs haven't been tuned by someone who understands COBOL
and how it works, I suspect that I could reduce their consumption by a
fair amount. Also I believe that some services such as XML that can be
accessed by COBOL programs run on the ZIIP/ZAP. If the COBOL programs
use the SORT verb, some of that work may be off-loaded to the
ZII{/ZAP. Read your DF SORT or SYNSORT manual. Arithmetic may give
different results in Java. Get someone who really knows both
languages and the facilities currently available in COBOL to reduce
CPU consumption and off-load work to ZIIP/ZAP to review your situation
before embarking on a conversion to JAVA.
