6.4 ES/9000 Remote Console
The ES/9000 remote console consists of a display, a keyboard, and a system
unit. The remote console can be used either of two ways:
° As a local-area-network (LAN-attached) remote console, which can be
connected through an IBM Token-Ring adapter, OR
° As a switched communication-line-attached remote console, which can be
anywhere that a synchronous data link control (SDLC) communication
line exists.
6.4.1 Requirements
Note: The following information refers to IBM products. You may choose
equivalent products in place of those made by IBM.
Remote Console: The recommended remote console is:
&ballot. IBM PS/2 Model 55 SX (or higher), OR
&ballot. IBM PS/55 Model 5551 T (or higher), if using a double-byte
character set (DBCS)
The remote console must have:
° 1.44MB diskette drive
° 4MB main memory minimum; 8MB for DBCS
Note: With 4MB of main memory, the DOS box may need to be disabled on
your system to allow the remote console application to run. IBM
recommends 6MB of main memory to avoid this situation.
° 40MB of hard disk space minimum
° 10MB of additional hard disk space for each additional level of 9221
licensed internal code that you intend to support
° 15MB of additional hard disk space for second language support
