I'm not sure what you mean by "physical or information-based". Are you
contrasting hardware with software? Are you suggesting that IBM
hardware may not be used with non-IBM systems unless explicitly
permitted, and that the default is "no"?

I have an IBM-branded mouse that I bought many years ago for use with
my then IBM Thinkpad. Today I still use that mouse, but with an HP
laptop. Should I be concerned?
