IBM Tech Doc # TD105503 is really quite excellent. I'd like to point out
that there are other possible definitions of "lifecycle" that are
situational and also quite important. Here are some notable examples:

* design resiliency
* economic
* security
* regulatory
* software/operating system currency: compatibility
* software/operating system currency: exploitation
* model upgrade (same serial number)
* Capacity On Demand (CBU, CPE, etc.)
* accounting/depreciation

The last one is my least favorite, perhaps because I don't always
understand it.
