Hey Greg,

In the Marine Corps we call everyone by their last name, so sometimes it
doesn't work well! I will use first names from here out. Hey I am new to this
LISTSERV business!

Thanks for the doc, These volumes hold FDR archive datasets.

It's Greg, by the way. With more information, I see that you are indeed
trying to extend the candidate volumes for a data set. The message below
indicates it is not a VSAM file, is that right? If so, is it SMS-managed? If
not, I'm afraid the issue is fairly clear:

Restriction: This does not work with non-SMS non-VSAM.

If it is SMS-managed, the manual indicates that you can only add nonspecific
volumes to non-VSAM data sets, that is, ADDVOLUMES(* * * * * * * *) to add 8
candidate volumes. However, my experiments issuing the command with a
specific volser did not generate the same message as you received, so I'm not
sure that's your issue.

Thanks for responding Shirley. I am new to this, but we have a pool of archive
packs 3390-9's which have been added to the catalog below.
I am simply trying to add 8 more volumes to the pool hopefully without deleting
and redefining the catalog.

FDRABR.POOLDISK.ARCHIVE1 AR2330+
All allocated volumes:
                             More: +
  Number of volumes allocated: 14

  AR2330 AR2331 AR2332 AR2333 AR2334
  AR2335 AR2336 AR2337 AR2340 AR2341
  AR2342 AR2343 AR2344 AR2345

Philip,

I believe the example you posted below is attempting to add a candidate volume
to the catalog for the data set FDRABR.POOLDISK.ARCHIVE1. If you are trying
to add a volume to a storage pool, I think you'll need to go through the ISMF
panels. (Unless this is something specific to FDR, which I know nothing
about... )
