I personally look at zOSMF with a dubious eye. True that it's gotten easier to
install/maintain w/ Liberty Profile however there's plenty of room for
improvement. E.g. Having the ability to easily remove a plug-in would be
nice...lol. IBM is always trying to make a better mainframe "wheel" and this
time the heralded front-runner is zOSMF. In my own jaded opinion zOSMF's only
purpose is to lure younger talent and interest to the mainframe. The new
talent pool apparently demands system mgmt. w/ a mouse! W/e.... I recall an
IBM offering called SSX/VSE that would virtually eliminate the need for VSE
sysprogs...a real turn-key nirvana. It lived a few years and was gone.
Another was DMS which was going to revolutionize the CICS application
programming world. It lasted a few years as well. There's always a magic
potion to sell. In response to serverpac I would say that serverpac is a great
installation tool and adding the entire IBM product set to it is goodness for
sure. However I would ask IBM, please do not mandate zOSMF.
