Ed, Not sure how long ago eons was, but I started in the mid-80s on MVS/SP and at my first SMP/E (and I believe only) class, I was taught the APPLY / run for a while / ACCEPT usage - except for USERMODs or APARs that hadn't had a published PTF yet.
