AI is passé; what's in now is artificial stupidity. Take web design - please!

Subject: Db2 AI: Another Great Reason for Machine Learning on z/OS

OK, this IBM announcement I like, a lot....

Yesterday I posted a short article on "The Curse of AI Done Poorly":

http://secure-web.cisco.com/1KhexO4Skvf6syF0aMFOrrnwEiCpsrODG80n-4a-XEpq3LEOHXw92eGJMRcVT1iKGnZKgk6sUL9qwUyL-kF9CNacQWdyoa5XWbRrq1haBs_WjYNeMaXO6y9_g0aB-8PCi7XnLJgMJ4nCTRyfKrLC8zSC57562OKB00k6x3c5aHuj9QJQOQ7oL7CEd0ccAB0a5muUFGAGA8uS2-3dTQ5_AY_yjOmHeerTXjULuNH-MGaxgBm_ariSJmgfnLz_VA-Ke05Z86EELwCkyokmk030vytFXtSPDUs7i-I1iGbnFBn-EAoqRb7V_7zQZhM9NhobL5hgG7Pfgma5PgxAIjqqs6K2VE8sVTjHYHolxZ2mHo_lUlz97H1NfWyYJpznGXteL/http%3A%2F%2Fmillennialmainframer.com%2F2018%2F09%2Fbad-ai-robots%2F

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with bad AI, probably because I'm
exceptional in many ways. Aren't we all? :-) [Insert your own horror
stories here.]

However, there are many mainframe shops that are at least starting to do AI
well, and they're using Machine Learning for z/OS and other new
capabilities (such as the IBM Db2 Analytics Accelerator) for competitive
advantage and improved customer/citizen services. Nonetheless, in some
organizations -- maybe yours? -- there's a too wide gulf between the
"mainframe people" (whatever that means) and front line business managers
and users. That's a problem, because it maintains a disconnect between what
enterprise technologies can do to help business, and what's actually (not)
getting done.

There are many possible ways to bridge that divide, and here's one great
new way: Db2 AI for z/OS. Here's the real deal:

1. Do This: License and implement Db2 AI for z/OS (5698-CGN) and, if you
don't already have it, Machine Learning for z/OS (5698-ML1)

2. Get This: Reduce your Db2 for z/OS peak processor utilization by up to
25%

[3. Oh, And Get This, Too: You now have Machine Learning for z/OS and all
its capabilities -- available for all the business (and government) use
cases to do AI well and securely, for all data, and without stale data. And
ML for z/OS could be effectively free, or better than free, because you've
made your Db2 for z/OS environment that much more efficient in the process
of getting ML for z/OS.]

It's a simple, attractive deal, and conceptually the technology is pretty
simple to understand, too. Db2's optimizer is smart, very smart, but it's
smart in a generalized way for "typical workloads." Your workloads aren't
laboratory standard because you're not operating a machine in a laboratory.
So, Db2 AI for z/OS collects data from the Db2 optimizer and execution
history from Db2, for your unique and real development, test, and
production workloads. Based on this constantly updated data and machine
learning, Db2 AI for z/OS can then better optimize the access paths for
your queries using models best suited to your particular environment. Db2
AI and Machine Learning have extremely high zIIP eligibilities, and that's
helpful, too.

Machine Learning for z/OS includes Apache Spark for z/OS and many other
components, and it works with practically all data, including VSAM and IMS.
