Brian, I will add my thanks also. I work for a ISV, we write in Cobol ( I know ), my first love is HLASM and C . I just learned a couple years ago and do like PC languages like Ruby and Python. Code like you shared is great I look at the cbttapes also and Xephon pubs. I came up though opeations and learns Systems Programmming on the fly, so I am always appreciative of new techniques.
