A half-century ago, I saw a magazine article suggesting that FORTRAN (*the* language then) should treat '0' and 'O' as interchangable. OK. I can write "C0NTINUE" instead of "CONTINUE". But it restricts the name space for variables. (And I wondered if '0' and 'O' confusion was the nub of the SHARK TANK CICS article.)
A half-century ago I was learning to type on a real typewriter that had no numeric 1 key - you had to use the letter l. But it did have both zero and letter O keys, I assume so that each could have their own shift character. I still have it: http://mildredbrennan.com/mvs/remington.png
