"Why do you need to know?" is an interesting question. Don't forget IPv6,
by the way.

There's also the fact that the local answer(s) to that question ("What's my
IP address?") aren't(isn't) necessarily or even very often the non-local
answer(s). Network Address Translation (NAT), proxies, VLANs, VIPAs/DVIPAs,
SDNs, and other such phenomena can be quite interesting, too. And such
phenomena can exist well within the same machine itself, even in multiple
layers.
