Ken,

I suggest posting to the LINUX-390 mailing list. You can make list
subscription requests here:

http://www2.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?linux-390

When you post there, I suggest clarifying what you want to move (and why)
since it's a little confusing from your question. If you're running Linux
as guests under z/VM, please be advised that (so far as I'm aware) z/VM
itself cannot be "moved" from FICON/ECKD to/from FCP/SCSI/FBA volumes. At
least, I haven't run into a volume conversion tool of that sort for z/VM
itself -- e.g. shut down z/VM, run a conversion tool, then start up z/VM.
When you install z/VM you're making a decision at that point whether to
install the hypervisor to ECKD or FBA, and it's a pretty "sticky" decision
from z/VM's perspective.

Typically you'd install a fresh instance of z/VM onto FCP/FBA volumes, then
you'd migrate Linux guests and their associated volumes. But I'm
generalizing, and I think the participants in the LINUX-390 list will need
a little more insight, as mentioned.

Also, it's rather common to have hybrid storage, meaning that you might
have z/VM itself partially or fully on ECKD but with FBA volumes also in
the mix. And that's perfectly fine, even common. So are you trying to *add*
FBA volumes to your deployment, for example? Please note that z/VM Single
System Image (SSI) -- which is now, in z/VM 7.1, a base feature in z/VM
(and a darn useful feature) -- requires some ECKD storage for the SSI
Persistent Data Record (PDR). So hybrid storage deployments are *really*
common for that reason alone.

It's possible to install and configure Linux guests such that *they* don't
particularly care whether they're running with underlying ECKD or FBA
storage. I'd recommend that approach, at least in general. If you're trying
to move Linux guests around, try to get to that sort of end state
Linux-level configuration if you can.
