Trying to help with your last sentence.

Numerous variables involved with migration. For example, old config
(zmbFromConfigRoot) to new config (zmbToConfigRoot), using intermediate
symbolic link (EnableIntermediateSymlink), etc. If possible, try and locate
the response file that was used for your 8.5 environment. This should save you
some time with zmmt or the z/OS Migration Management Tool when ready to build
the migration to 9.0.

I have used the latter several times between 6.1 and 9.0. Screens change a
bit, but the concept is the same, answer questions (response file) specific to
your environment, then generate migration jobs and instructions. Some of the
migration overview documents and presentations from 2008 or so do a nice job
showing zmmt and the tool together.

The only 8.5 to 9.0 migration difference I recall... As of V9.0, SMPE no
longer applies maintenance to the local repositories, just SBBOJCJ. IBM
Packaging Utility can be used instead.

Kevin

Subject: WebSphere for z/OS mailing list?

Long time z/OS systems guy.

I got to take over WebSphere installation/upgrading awhile back.
I managed to get through an 8.5.5.5 to 8.5.5.12 upgrade.
Now I'm trying to get to 9.0.0.9 (whole other animal).

Does anyone know if there is a mail list similar to this one for WebSphere?
If there is one for WebSphere for z/OS, even better.
I'm hoping to benefit from others experience with an 8.5 to 9.0 upgrade.
