Ambitus is an interesting new open source mainframe project hosted by
the Open Mainframe Project (Zowe etc).

It currently contains repositories for z/OS ports of the gcc C/C++
compiler, glibc runtime and binutils. It's a WIP but looks promising.
The ports were contributed by Rocket Software.
