Routinely Powering Up the Symmetrix 3830/5830 Perform these steps to power up the Symmetrix after it has been powered off by the AC power switch. 1. Press the AC power switch on the rear door to the up (|) position. Symmetrix begins its IML procedure. The power controls are inoperative unless the Emergency Power Off (EPO) switch on the rear door is in its enabled (up, | position). The EPO switch when turned off (down, O position) disables all power to Symmetrix including the backup battery systems. 2. Wait at least twenty minutes for the IML procedure to complete. 3. Ensure that the channel director operator panel switches on the front door of the Symmetrix are in the enable position before attempting to initialize the host. Routinely Powering Down the Symmetrix 3830/5830 System Perform these steps to power off Symmetrix using the AC power switch. CAUTION ! Do NOT use the red EPO switch located on the back of the Symmetrix to routinely power down the unit. The red EPO switch is for Emergency shutdown. 1. Stop all processes to the Symmetrix 3830/5830. 2. Watch the operator panel and wait for all “Active” LEDs to stop flashing. The displays stop flashing when the Symmetrix has written all cache data to disk. 3. Press the black AC IN power switch on the rear door to the down or off (0) position. Do not press the EPO (red) switch. The battery backup system automatically turns on when Symmetrix detects loss of AC power. The battery will keep Symmetrix powered for 3 minutes following which Symmetrix turns off. Hope this helps. I don't know anything about this machine. Can anybody who has such a machine tell me if there is anything special to pay attention to when shutting down and restarting this machine or is is just switch off and switch on the power-button.
