There have been a number of good posts regarding the needs of the entry-level, and smaller IBM customers wanting to use z/VM solutions.  It is important for IBM to hear from those businesses (some of which everyone hopes will grow to need System z9's).

But before everyone comes down on IBM too hard, let's see what IBM has in store for us in the near future.  I have no inside knowledge of the materials to be presented, but the agenda at the following (May 3, 2006) webcast site is sufficiently vague that it may address these issues at some level.

The title is: Title: The IBM System z Webcast: Rethinking the Role of the Mainframe

Having heard endless discussion from IBMers that the right way to talk about the z9 is always "System z9", I find it interesting that there's reference to "The IBM System z Webcast" leaving off reference to "z9".  Maybe I'm trying too hard to read too much into it?  I guess we'll know more on May 3rd... :-)
