For now, you still need to do both (some RSCS functions like PPS depend on the IDENTIFY command working properly, and that requires SYSTEM NETID). We had a big discussion on this a few months ago, and I think the IBMers took away a to-do to fix IDENTIFY to report the nodeid from SYSTEM CONFIG if there wasn't anything useful in SYSTEM NETID, or to restore the step in the CP installation process docs to customize SYSTEM NETID to avoid the problem. I don't know if anyone turned that into a formal requirement, though. David Boyes Sine Nomine Associates
