Yes, IBM could have forgotten. And did. It was added via an APAR
(VM63812) and we failed to add the helpfile (which we've already heard of
a few times). Because the information is very specialized we don't plan
to add the help file, but you can find the updates in the APAR closing
data. To wit:

                  .-ACTive--------------------.
>>--Query--TApes--+---------------------------+------------><
                  |-ALL-----------------------|
                  |-ATTach--.--------.--------|
                  | '-userid-' |
                  |-BOXed---------------------|
| | <---------------< |
| |-DETails--.-rdev--------.--|
| | '-rdev1-rdev2-' |
                  |-FREe----------------------|
                  |-OFFline-------------------|
                  |-QUIesced------------------|
                  '-SYStem--------------------'

...

DETAILS
displays detailed information about real tapes.

rdev
rdev1-rdev2
is the real device number (rdev), a range of real device
numbers (rdev1-rdev2), or some combination of those items.

For tapes attached to a library, the following information
   is returned on the response:

     o Library Identifier (sequence number)
o Logical Device Group Identifier (libport)

For tapes not attached to a library, the information is
not relevant and is returned as a string of dashes ("-").

...

Response 8:

If you enter a QUERY TAPES DETAILS <rdev(s)> command, and the
tape drive is not a part of the library, the response will be
similar to the following:

   q tapes details 4499
   16:06:22 TAPE 4499 SEQUENCE NUMBER ----- LIBPORT -
   Ready; T=0.01/0.01 16:06:22

For a device that is a part of a library, the output will be
similar to the following:

   q tapes details 4300
   20:04:04 TAPE 4300 SEQUENCE NUMBER 00103 LIBPORT 1
   Ready; T=0.01/0.01 20:04:04
