We dump our VM/LINUX vols using dfdss on mvs. The dump parm looks like th
is:
 DUMP TRACKS(0,0,3338,14) INDDNAME(TAPE) OUTDDNAME(DASD) ADMIN -
 CPVOLUME CANCELERROR

So I wanted to restore to a different pack to look at the pack. The
restore pack had a different label that I did a cpfmtxa to so as not to

confuse myself. But I was told by IBM that I'd have to restore track 0

which would destroy the vol header. But at least I knew what pack I was

restoring to and could then go back into vm and relabel the pack to what
I
want to name it. I ran the restore and looked at the vol ser(on mvs) and

expected the vol ser to change. Much to my suprise it didn't. The volser
is
the same as it was before the restore. The restore parm looks like this:
  RESTORE TRACKS(0,0,3338,14) INDDNAME(TAPE) OUTDDNAME(DASD) ADMIN -
 CPVOLUME CANCELERROR PURGE

Shouldn't this have wiped out the vol ser????

thanks
Mace
