.. and somewhat along the same lines...

Does anyone have any idea how to retireve the data off an LVM which has had one of it's volumes mistakenly formatted in z/VM while the instance was down?  Yes, I know, the best way to handle this type of situation is never to be there...

The data I need slipped between our backup windows.

On at least some kernel levels, with at least some DASD device drivers, 
never-formatted DASD won't come ACTIVE -- it stays READY forever (yes, those 
states seem backwards: ACTIVE is "better" than READY).  Hence, I suspect, the 
original admonition.
