Presumably one might want to verify that a product is running on a CP-type
for which it is licensed. It was the case (and may still be - I haven't been
following) that certain IBM products were not licensed for use on an IFL.
Presumably the same could be true for other vendors' products.

It might also be desirable to execute compute intensive work on the cheapest
processor available, and that is more likely to be an IFL than a regular
engine.
