I did exactly what you described. It removed the LX270 stuff and left
the bad stuff there.

I may have done something incorrectly back in the beginning and
introduced an orphan part of some sort.

This is not a VM:Secure problem. It is looking like it is self inflicted
and someone with VM/SES knowledge may be able to help me isolate what I
did to create this mess. Better yet, help me get beyond it.
