Ed,   Have been using EMC dasd for VSE/SP, VSE/ESA, VM/ESA, z/VM 4.3, 4.4, 5.1, 5.2, OS/390 2.4, 2.7, and 2.10 and z/OS 1.4 and 1.6 for many years.  Not specifically a DMX-1000, have used DMX-2000 , 8830 and various older models.  Would be glad to discuss your concerns off list if you like.
