So we got a free IFL from IBM. I do know you can't change the IFL on a MP3000-H30 or any MP3000 for that matter to a standard processor. But if I change the LPAR from Linux only to ESA/390, I should be able to run the Z/VM 4.4 and run Linux under z/VM4.4 for the time being. But ultimately I would need to create 3 LPARS: PROD, TECH, and LINUX. I am crossing my fingers that I don't have to IML if I change the TECH LPAR from LINUX only to ESA/390.

Integrated Facility for Linux. I don't know if you can change an IFL to a standard processor. Some of the newer machines I believe you can, mp3000, I don't know. The VM will IPL fine on either a standard CPU or and IFL. But you can only run VM and/or Linux on an IFL. No other OS (z/OS, z/VSE) will run on and IFL.
