How much time are you giving it to shutdown?

Yes, it does, Rich. For example, VMLXTST5...

q signals
                                       Signalled  Timeout
Userid        Signal    Signal Status   By         Remaining
VMLXTST5      SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMLXTST3      SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMLXTST1      SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMLXTST4      SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMLXTST2      SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMSERVR       SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMSERVU       SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

VMSERVS       SHUTDOWN  Enabled         -          -

When I do "SIGNAL SHUTDOWN guestname" and the timeout period expires, z/V
M
pulls the rug out from underneath Linux and that does terminate it. Howev
er,
I'm hoping/expecting a clean shutdown where Linux does its externalising
of
files etc first and shuts down in an orderly fashion.

Regards,
Fred
