This would be an option if I wasn't knee deep into building a house in a real estate market that is falling. A house I really like and would enjoy living in. To go anywhere means leaving the area and potentially Florida. The biggest hurt would be a 50% salary cut that would be expected starting over after 20 years on the job. My catch 22.

Having been there myself, your best bet is to find yourself a new
position ASAP. If they still need your services, they may be able to get
you for a few hours a week at a nice hourly rate. Don't be a victim of
their bad decision making - take advantage of it in every possible way.
