If I remember correctly

the 3370 was CKD
the 3375 was FBA
and the 3380 was back to CKD
and the 3390 changed the bytes per track but stayed CKD

all required conversion to move from or to.

Had MVS been able to cope with FBA, rather. FBA was plenty popular with the
non-MVS crowd. Also, wasn't 3350 CKD? 3370 was FBA, but I thought there was
one earlier that was at least pseudo-FBA.
