IBM (Jon Wesley) contacted me with a solution to rebuilding the HCSH2A90
book index.
"I reviewed the defects on the Read/VM
product and found APAR GC05448. The APAR says that the descriptions for
return codes 38 and 40 in the manual are reversed. Return code 38 is the
one for disk space, and return code 40 is for storage. Looking in the
Displaying Online Books, the Index command has a storage parameter that
can be used to increase the amount of storage."
Adding (STORAGE 4000 to the INDEX command enabled me to rebuild the index
.
Of course, this does not fix the broken indices that are being shipped on
the z/VM 5.3.0 DVD. Maybe IBM will fix this for the next release.
I think they are only a problem if you use BookManager/Read VM.
No one responded to my note, so it looks like we are the only people stil
l
using BookManager/Read for VM.
