If there are no obvious messages, then I recommend issuing NETSTAT GATE 
when the system is working correctly and comparing that output to NETSTAT 
GATE when it is not.

Thinking horses, not zebras, random unreported connectivity loss is almost 
always a routing failure, whether local or somewhere between Here and 
There.  A TRACERTE between Here and There would also be enlightening.
