Correct. Even without TSM, you still get a level 1 migration capability, where the files are compressed and moved to another SFS filepool. As you might expect, recall is faster than from tape. SMS also provides useful functions to let you establish SFS filespaces that can be used like T-disks, with SMS automatically expiring and erasing files.
