Hi,

I have a vswitch running, but we have some problems. What I want is
this:

-------------- --------------
| Unknown IP | | Unknown IP |
| Nortel |------------------| Nortel | Location 1
| Core Switch| | Core Switch|
-------------- --------------
      |
      |
      |
      |
-------------- --------------
| 10.199.3.2 | | 10.199.3.3 |
| Nortel |------------------| Nortel | Location 2
| Core Switch| | Core Switch|
-------------- --------------
      \ /
       \ /
        \ /
         \ /
          \ /
      ---------------------------------
      | OSA 12 | OSA 13 |
      ---------------------------------
      | z/VM 5.3.0 |
      | TCPIP 10.199.3.55 on VSWITCH1 |
      | Guest 10.199.103.2 on VSWITCH1|
      | Guest 10.199.103.6 on VSWITCH1|
      ---------------------------------

My network guys say we can't do this because we would need to enable
'Split MLT', which can't be done because of the configuration of the
core switches. They say I can have a trunk port on one core switch, but
no connection to the other core switch, or I can have an access port on
each core switch. Anyone have any ideas for configuring it?

Reasons for the configuration:

1) Dual OSA adaptors because we have lost network connectivity due to an
OSA failure in the past.
2) Dual core switch connections because we have lost network
connectivity in the past due to someone shutting off the core switch we
were connected to.
3) Multiple VLANs on z/VM so that we can play with second level systems
and test Linux guests using 10.199.103 addresses, instead of begging for
scarce 10.199.3 addresses.

The problem we have now? Both OSA were connected to the same core
switch, which created a loop. We are now running with just one
connection while the network guys have a think about it.

Thanks,
Peter
