I see that often as well. I don't know if it's my mail reader
(Thunderbird) or not.

The email from ed had both a plain text portion which is what my mailer
showed me and an html portion which my mailer (and I) ignored,
There are listserv options which would have told the listserv to drop
the html portion. Obviously these options are not in effect (Dan, hint
hint).
