The support statement for z/VM 5.2 was 128GB, but from a practical standpoint, the value might be slightly lower. It is workload dependent. The key variable to watch is how much memory below 2GB is being consumed by PTRM space. When it gets to 1GB of resident PTRM, consider that the yellow line. 1.5GB is the red line.
z/VM 4.4 is not supported at all anymore :-). From a practical standpoint, I used to get nervous at about 16GB.
