Current configuration is;
z800 with 3 OSA cards (6 NIC)
all OSA used as QDIO
4 are 10/100 copper
2 are 1000 fiber (only 1 fiber cable but we plan to buy another)
z/VM 5.2 with TCP/IP using 1 dedicated 100Mb connection (very little traffic)
VSE guest with Barnard TCP/IP using 1 dedicated 100Mb (test system, some
traffic)
VSE guest with Barnard TCP/IP using 1 dedicated 1000Mb (production,
critical, heavy traffic)
Because of recent intermittent failures, I would like to implement some type
of redundancy or automatic fail over configuration.
I've started reading CP Planning and Administration and have the basic idea
that I can
define a VSWITCH with 3 real devices. Main or primary will be the 1000Mb fiber
connection
and it would be shared by production and test VSE guests with 2 slower copper
connections
in case of failure. Add the NICDEF statements in the VM directory for the VSE
guest machines
and existing definitions at the VSE level would not change.
Does this sound correct ?
Am I on the right track ?
Any better ideas ?
