I doubt z/VM has anything to do with it at all.  As far as it's concerned, it's 
just all IP packets flowing back and forth.

When you SSH to the installation system, what does echo $DISPLAY show you?  If 
it's blank, does the xauth command exist on the initrd?  On SLES initrds, it's 
at /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth.  If your DISPLAY environment variable is null, and 
xauth isn't on the initrd, you won't be able to run the install with X.  VNC 
perhaps, but not X.

I don't know if the command is available on the Red Hat initrd, but if it is, 
what does "netstat -ln" show?
