Not being an IBM'er, I have no access to PL/X, but my guess is that it can
be told to generate multiple code paths for a particular sequence of
operations, that will be gated by checks of the processor type.  This will
allow z/VM to run on a machine with the original system z 64 bit hardware
(z800/z900?) but will take advantage of the z10 instruction set if running
on one.

I'm confused, partly by the pre-announce discussion of what 
architecture level instruction PL/X generates.

Does this mean guest OSes and user written programs can invoke z10 
instructions (presumably only on a z10?), or does this mean IBM is 
now using z10 instructions in z/VM itself?

I think I know the answer, but I've so wrong so many times, I figured 
I'd better ask.
