As Rich stated, the NOVSTART system is configured to expect its NIC to be at 0340-0342. Since you want other z/VM guests to be able to access this system, the idea was to have NOVSTART and those guests be on the same Guest LAN, or VSWITCH. If you don't do that, then you're going to have to make sure there's a working route between NOVSTART and any guests you plan to build from it. This will possibly involve traffic going out over the wire, and so will be not nearly as fast as keeping the traffic in a virtual network. To fix your immediate problem, if you dedicate the real devices at e000-e002 to virtual devices 0340-0342 for NOVSTART, it will at least fire up and see its NIC. Mark Post
