I guess the only thing that I'm missing here is your wildcard

PIPE command LISTDIR dirid | drop | spec w2 | sort d | spec ,ERASE, 1
w1 nw ,(FILES, nw | command | cons

By sorting reverse you get a subdirectory at least before its parent,
so the ERASE commands are in the proper order to roll it up.
