I wrote the GRINCH EXEC in Rexx within minutes of it showing up on our (very large) university system. It was a simple search and destroy routine that scanned the system RDR spool and "stole" the offending files. ;-)

Its main claim to fame was that because it was written in Rexx, it was quick to implement and it kept the spool from filling up. In those days, that caused an ABEND. GRINCH was fairly widely distributed around VM university sites, but in all honesty it wasn't that sophisticated and many shops wrote their own.

I left VM at Y2K (kicking and screaming) so I'm not terribly current, but can anyone recall an example of a "VM virus" besides XMAS EXEC?
