Alain,

Since most of the US is on a holiday today (and probably tomorrow)
perhaps I have an answer for you.

It is possible for a 3380K device to have 3339 cylinders.

On real 3390 devices you could format the 3390 in 3380 Track
Compatibility Mode (TCM) and get 3339 cylinders with 3380 track
format. We have a client that used this to hold 3380 format volumes
while slowly converting the data onto 3390 format tracks.

I know EMC had the ability to do the same thing - we used some at a DR
facility. EMC called them 3380K+ rather than 3380 TCM.

I suppose it is possible that whoever setup your subsystem (is it an
IBM 2107 or DS8000?) has done this too - set up an emulated 3390 but
requested 3380 formatting. I do not have a DS8000 so can't tell you if
this can be done, but it looks likely.

Bon chance.
