The COMPARE command provides a simpleminded way to determine if two files
are different, but it gets easily confused. The XCOMPARE utility from
Cornell (on many VM Workshop tapes) proves more sophisticated comparisons,
including the ability to generate CMS UPDATE-compatible files (similar to
the way diff works on Unix). If you¹re unfortunate enough to have ISPF/VM,
the SuperCOMPARE utility that¹s in that package also can compare files.

I¹d recommend XCOMPARE. Price is right (free), and it¹s pretty good.
