Hugo,

my first installation
You don't have to modify(form) zipl.conf - the SLES installation process
will create it. That being said, after installation I like to add the
"dasd=<values>" parameter so I know I can go to /etc/zipl.conf to remember
which disks are desired to be accessed and in which order. Also,
"vmpoff=LOGOFF" is nice because it prods the userID to logoff after Linux
is shut down.

SLES ships with two documents on CD1/DVD1 to help you install:
.../dvd1/docu/en # ls
preparation.pdf startup.pdf

Also, you may be interested in the IBM Redbook "z/VM and Linux on IBM
System z The Virtualization Cookbook for SLES 10 SP2", SG24-7493 on the
Web at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg247493.html?Open Section
7.5.9 discusses /etc/zipl.conf.

Hope this helps...
