Rules for sharing dasd: 1. If you want the guest to be able to issue RESERVEs to a minidisk, it must have link mode MWV on the MDISK statement in the owner's directory entry. If you don't do this, I believe MVS will throw an error, reporting the lack of RESERVE/RELEASE capability when the volume is brought online. 2. The non-owners LINK to the disk with mode MW. No 'V'. 3. IF the minidisk is a full-pack (0-END) minidisk, AND you have defined the volume as SHARED in SYSTEM CONFIG (or via SET SHARED ON command), ONLY THEN will a hardware RESERVE be issued to the DASD.
